Released on April 16, 2026, Opus 4.7 was introduced as the “safe and scalable” flagship. While it intentionally lacks the “unrestricted” reasoning depth of Mythos, it has set new records for models available via general API and cloud providers like Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud.
1. The “xhigh” Effort Tier
Opus 4.7 introduces a granular control system for reasoning. The new “Extra High” (xhigh) effort level is specifically tuned for agentic search and tool orchestration.
-
The Tradeoff: At xhigh, the model utilizes a significantly larger “thinking budget,” resulting in higher latency but a 40% reduction in “looping” errors—where AI agents get stuck in repetitive logic cycles.
-
Agent-Team Workflows: It is optimized to act as a “Lead Agent,” managing smaller sub-agents (like Claude Haiku 4.5) to complete multi-document audits or code refactoring projects.
2. Multimodal “Pixel-Perfect” Vision
A massive upgrade to the vision engine allows Opus 4.7 to process images up to 2,576 pixels on the long edge.
-
Use Case: This allows the model to read dense financial spreadsheets, architectural blueprints, and high-resolution UI screenshots with 1:1 pixel mapping, eliminating the scaling errors that plagued previous versions.
